Poland’s The Magnificent MAZOWSZE Visits Milwaukee to Celebrate 60th Anniversary Tour in US
Holiday program to showcase the music and dance of Poland
MILWAUKEE — October 26, 2010 — Direct from Poland, The Magnificent MAZOWSZE returns to Milwaukee on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts as part of its special 60th Anniversary Tour. The holiday program begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes a thrilling display of dazzling movement, vibrant color and stunning beauty.
Since 1948, MAZOWSZE has embodied the spirit and soul of Poland’s national dances, songs and traditions. Featuring festive Polish carols and dances, MAZOWSZE is an early holiday season treat the whole family will enjoy.
The show has been critically acclaimed by arts and entertainment writers throughout the country. The New York Times said, “There is nothing greater than Mazowsze!” The tour is coordinated with major Public Television showings of the PBS special “The Music and Dance of Poland.”
The choreography and musical arrangements represent 39 regions of Poland with traditional performance styles. A full 23-member orchestra performs music ranging from Chopin to simple folk melodies beloved by the Poles for centuries.
Ninety dancers, musicians and singers are arrayed in a seemingly never-ending series of handmade traditional costumes – more than 1,000 in total, one more dramatic and colorful than the next. Some weigh as much as 30lbs, making their energetic gravity-defying leaps, twirls and lifts even more impressive.
The incomparable Mazowsze performance troupe whirls, leaps, stamps and glides in a glorious outpouring of sound and motion, rhythm and music that celebrates the cultural legacy of Poland.
