“Nine Days That Changed the World” (2010)

This outstanding new film focuses on the first visit of the newly elected Pope John Paul II to Poland in June 1979 and his extraordinary impact, in Poland and in ending communist rule in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Breathtaking film footage of this visit is accompanied by commentaries by significant public figures including Solidarity’s  Lech Wałęsa  and Czech reformer Vaclav Havel, along with an impressive biography of the Pope.

Date: Monday, October 25, 2010

Time: 7:00 p.m.  (Film is 94 minutes followed by a panel discussion)

Place: Polish Center of Wisconsin, 6941 South 68th St., Franklin

After the showing, Historian Neal Pease of the Polish Studies Committee of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Ewa Barczyk, Director of the UWM Library will lead a discussion of the film. Refreshments will be served..
