VISA WAIVER ACTION ALERT

VISA WAIVER ACTION ALERT
In March, 2011, sympathetic Members of the U.S. Congress introduced legislation in both chambers to revise requirements for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
Polish American Congress President Frank J. Spula and Executive Committee members of the PAC recently spent two days in Washington meeting with Members of Congress and Administration officials, seeking their active support for bringing Poland into the VWP.
Now we need to do our part to encourage our Representatives in both Houses to join in co-sponsoring this legislation and supporting it with their colleagues.
A massive and loud appeal is needed to convince them our votes are at stake.
Please take the time to sign the accompanying Petition to help urge all U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives to support this legislation.
Let them know we are their voting constituents and they need to pay attention to our needs.
You can help this cause by signing this Petition, or by calling their office, sending them a fax or by using the contact form on their own websites.
So please help us any way you can.
Please sign our Petition… it only takes a few seconds.
Thank you

Polish Women’s Alliance of America is pleased to announce the opening of the Glos PolekCentennial Exhibition A VOICE OF THEIR OWN at the Polish Center of Wisconsin in Franklin, WI, on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited to attend the opening reception and to view this unique exhibition.
The exhibition, which will be at Polish Center of Wisconsin until June 26, 2011, celebrates the centennial of the Glos Polek (The Polish Women’s Voice), the official publication of the Polish Women’s Alliance of America, Chicago, Illinois, one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the U.S. The exhibition presents front pages, articles, and photographs from theGlos Polek that tell an inspiring story of journalism, immigration, activism, and the fight for self-determination. A 72-page color catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
The stories in the newspaper illustrate the events that shaped the world over the last 100 years. Against the backdrop of women’s struggles to assume their equal place in society — including the right to vote, make their own financial decisions, pursue higher education, and enter professions — and against the backdrop of the global struggle to defeat fascism and communism and to win independence for Poland, the pages of the Glos Polek chronicle the stories of ordinary women rising to meet the extraordinary challenges of their time.

Poland’s National Day
Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
May 2, 2011
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am
delighted to send best wishes to the people of Poland as you celebrate the
220th anniversary of the first Polish constitution.
This constitution, which granted groundbreaking liberties to the people of
Poland, is a testament to your rich history and unending pursuit for greater
freedom and prosperity. Poland is a model of democratic transition and hope
– one that has inspired countless advocates for freedom around the world.
The United States is proud to count Poland as one of its closest friends and
Allies, united by common values and mutual interest. We are working together
to promote even greater democratic principles in Poland and across the globe
– from our efforts to ensure political and economic stability in Poland’s
eastern neighborhood, to our cooperation in Afghanistan.
As you celebrate your National Day, know that the United States stands with
you. We are committed to this enduring alliance and the principles Poland
has worked to uphold for so many years.
ACTION NEEDED in Support of Visa Waiver Legislation
Dear Members and Friends of the Polish American Community:
April 2011 – After years of continued hard work of the Polish American Congress on the federal and state levels of government in the matter of securing the admission of Poland to the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP), our effort has attracted key members of the Illinois Congressional delegation in Washington, DC – notably, Senator Mark Kirk (R) and Congressman Mike Quigley (D) – who pledged to spearhead bipartisan legislation to include Poland in the Program.
As the result, two corresponding bills, sharing the same title of: “Secure Travel and Counterterrorism Partnership Program Act of 2011”, were introduced in both chambers of the U.S. Congress: H.R. 959 sponsored by Rep. Quigley in the U.S. House of Representatives, and S. 497 sponsored by Sen. Mikulski (D-MD) in the Senate. Both bills were then forwarded to the respective committees on the Judiciary.
The aim of the bill is to update and modernize the VWP requirements by setting the overstay rate (rather than the refusal rate, as it is practiced now) as the main criterion for country’s legibility and membership in the Program.
This development creates a golden opportunity for all members of American Polonia as well as friends of our community to work on, especially with their respective Congressional delegations in ensuring a passage of the bill.
We must not allow our golden opportunity to become a lost opportunity. Only through concerted and energetic political action on the part of all members of our Community can the golden opportunity translate into success.
To this end, a strong effort is urgently needed to saturate, by phone, letters and the Internet, the Congressional delegations of ALL states. In particular, we ask you to:
- Concentrate on those Representatives and Senators from your state who also serve on the Committee of the Judiciary (lists provided below) and urge them to support the bill and ensure that legislation’s successful referral “out of Committee” for a vote on the floor of both houses.
- If your Representative and/or Senators are not in the Committee to which the bill was referred, please urge them strongly to support the bill by becoming its co-sponsor (if they are not already), AND
- Urge your Representatives and Senators to vote for the passage of the bill when it comes for a vote.
- In addition, please make sure to express your gratitude to those Legislators who already took action. They would like to hear from you and will appreciate your support.

It is absolutely crucial that you contact both your Representative AND your Senators to express your support for the bills.
Finally, please make sure to encourage your family and friends as well as friends of Polonia to do the same and also contact their representatives in Washington in support of Poland’s membership in the Visa Waiver Program.
Together we can finally make it happen but we need to generate the greatest response from voters as possible.
